Synopsis:
The newly installed chief of police ramps up the war on the mob while his brother gets involved with a gun moll.
Impressions:
The film opens with a spiel from President Hoover calling on movies to glorify the police rather than gangsters and that's what this film sets out to do. You have Walter Huston's character as tough and driven to the point of obsession while his more laidback brother strays from the straight and narrow. It's an interesting relationship. The real payoff is the climax, which is a shootout that has to be seen to be believed. I wouldn't call it a great film, but it's definitely worth watching.
