The Angel Wore Red (1960)

The Angel Wore Red (1960)

Director: Nunnally Johnson
Starring: Ava Gardner, Dirk Bogarde, Joseph Cotten

Synopsis:
A disaffected priest is caught up in the tumult of the Spanish Civil War as both sides vie for possession of a holy relic.

Impressions:
This is a fairly interesting film. I liked Dirk Bogarde and Ava Gardner as the lead characters Arturo and Soledad. Vittorio De Sica also left an impression as General Clava. One thing that stood out is that neither the Republicans nor the Nationalists are portrayed all that favorably, which from what I know about the Spanish Civil War is pretty fair. Your mileage may vary on the quality of the romance, but as I said, I found it interesting and I think it's worth a watch.
