Impressions:
When I first heard about this movie, it piqued my curiosity, so I hunted it down. The involvement of Star Wars production designer John Barry is sure to draw the attention of most nerds. (The fact that the opening shot, ahem, borrows from Episode IV is entirely coincidental, I'm sure.) There are some good ideas here, but it's a very awkward movie. Kirk Douglas is the only one of the main three who delivers a naturalistic performance. If you told me the younger generation was being conditioned out of their emotions or that Alex and Captain Benson were androids, I might've been able to buy it. I don't have much of an opinion of Farrah Fawcett as an actress, but I like Harvey Keitel, so I don't what was going on here. As for the robotic menace Hector, you'd think his weird tiny little head would make him silly, but somehow it works for adding to the creep factor. Anyway, Kirk Douglas is the best thing about the film, but it's very much a mixed bag leaning in the unfavorable side. Take that into consideration when you decide whether to watch it or not.
