Synopsis:
Texan rebels make their last stand against the Mexican forces of General Santa Anna at the Alamo.
Impressions:
Although this film tanked at the box office and got a mixed reception at best, I actually think it's rather decent. I particularly liked the handling of Davy Crockett's character, a man struggling with his status as a living legend. The conflict between Travis and Bowie was also fairly well done. Emilio EchevarrÃa was also a quite effective villain as Santa Anna. The one thing I'd say against it is that I feel it would've been better artistically to end with the fall of the Alamo rather than giving us the Battle of San Jacinto to end the film on a high note. It was the same mistake Pearl Harbor made by including the Doolittle Raid. So it goes, I guess. I wouldn't call it a must-see, but I think if you do give it a shot, you'll find it worthwhile.
