Impressions:
I remember catching a few minutes of this near the end a number of years ago and it was some time before I came across it again. While the basic plot isn't terribly outstanding, what makes this movie special is the character dynamics. Not only do you have Kurt Russell and Mel Gibson's characters as friends with competing interests (Russell being a detective and Gibson a former drug dealer), but also a love triangle that forms with Michelle Pfeiffer's character, who plays both sides more actively than I've seen before in a scenario like this. Add in Raul Julia's character for added complications and you get a rather interesting mix. I'm sure that the love scene between Mel Gibson and Michelle Pfeiffer had to be quite the fanservice draw when the movie came out (due to both of their popularity at the time), so if that thought appeals to you, consider it an additional bonus. Mainly on the grounds of the aforementioned character dynamics, I consider this one worth watching. You may think so too.
