Synopsis:
The illegitimate son of a Saxon nobleman leaves England to find his fortune in Cathay.
Impressions:
This is very much a story in the mold of the works of Sir Walter Scott, anachronistic Saxon vs. Norman rivalry and all. You don't typically have a globetrotting medieval story, so that helps make this stand out from the pack. I like Tyrone Power as an actor, but I never liked his character here that much, though I suppose it all ties in to his character arc. I did like Walter's relationship with Bayan (played by Orson Welles). Welles does a lot to elevate the film. I certainly wouldn't call this movie exceptional, but it's definitely watchable and the exoticism factor adds a bit to the entertainment value. Give it a watch.
