Synopsis:
A village parson and a rogue find themselves the target of British occupation forces during the Revolutionary War.
Impressions:
I picked this one up based solely on the lead actors. It wasn't until the opening credits that I found out this was based on a play by George Bernard Shaw. Shaw's trademark wit is on display here, particularly in the character of "Gentleman Johnny" Burgoyne as portrayed by Laurence Olivier. (The fact that Burgoyne doubled as a dramatist in real life surely had nothing to do with Shaw's favorable treatment of him.) Kirk Douglas is also very entertaining as the lovable rogue Dick Dudgeon, leaving Burt Lancaster with more of the straight man role (but he at least gets a good action scene). I enjoyed this and would recommend giving it a watch.
