Synopsis:
A Hungarian immigrant disfigured in a fire turns to a life of crime when legitimate options are kept from him.
Impressions:
While star Peter Lorre didn't like this movie when he was making it, this isn't a bad little film. Lorre shows quite a bit of range from eager newcomer to the country to ice-cold crime boss. I also liked the relationship between Janos (Lorre's character) and small-time crook Dinky (played by George E Stone). I could almost do without the romantic subplot, as it didn't feel all that well-developed. Being only 69 minutes long, there's not much runtime for multiple plot threads, but so it goes. It's still a decent film and worth watching.
